Augie's Barbed Wire Smokehouse started in 2000 with nothing but a dream, a few dollars, and a love for old-school BBQ. After leaving the corporate world, Augie Cortez opened his first restaurant in the King William District — a cozy spot where friends and family packed the place every night. That's where he met Sandra, who would become both his partner in life and in smoke.

Over the years, Augie, Sandra, and their four sons have made Augie's more than just a restaurant — it's a local gathering place. The family actively supports local nonprofits and 501(c)(3)s, including the Consejo Organization and Catholic Charities, where Augie proudly served as El Rey Feo 73, giving back to families across San Antonio. At Augie's, guests are greeted like old friends — with a smile, a hug, and the best BBQ in town.
